Billboard, while being produced by Luke, Martin and Billboard. After a demo version of the song performed by McKee was leaked, the finished version premiered on January 10, 2011. Musically, "Hold It Against Me" features
industrial beats, a
dubstep-influenced breakdown and a final chorus with elements of
rave. The lyrics portray the singer seducing someone on the dancefloor, while the
chorus revolves around
pick-up lines. Most critics praised the song, although some criticized its lyrical content. "Hold It Against Me" debuted at number eleven on the
Finnish Singles Chart and number six on the
Irish Singles Chart. A music video for the song is set to be filmed in the third week of January 2011.
On January 10, 2011, "Hold It Against Me" set the record for most radio plays in one day in the United States, registering 619 plays on
Mediabase and 595 plays on
Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS).
The song debuted at number eleven on the
Finnish Singles Chart.
It also debuted at number six on the
Irish Singles Chart, the week ending January 13, 2011.
Billboard reported that industry prognosticgators expected the track to sell over 400,000 copies in the US its first week.
